Tirunelveli Radhapuram Bus Stand will be named after “Perunthalaivar” K.Kamaraj

A new bus-stand has been built at Radhapuram, Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu and declared open by Mr.M.K.Stalin, the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu in October 2009. However, after 10 months the “Radhapuram Bus-stand” is to be named after “Perunthalaivar-K.Kamaraj”, the former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

Along with the construction of the new “Radhapuram Bus-stand”, the statues of Mrs.Anjugam Ammal and Mr.Muthuvel, the parents of Mr.M.Karunanidhi, the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu were also made ready for unveiling. Mr.M.K.Stallin refused to declare open the statues of his grand-parents and the local M.L.A. declared open the statues after some days of opening of the bus-stand. After one month, the Tamilnadu Assembly Speaker Mr. Avudaiappan, Ministers.Mr.T.P.M Mohideen and Ms.Poongothai garlanded the statues of the parents of the Chief Minister.Mr.Appavoo, M.L.A. suggested and insisted that the new “Radhapuram Bus-stand” should be named after the parents of Mr.M.Karunanidhi. The Congressmen wanted the bus-stand to be named after the former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and Congress Leader Mr.K.Kamaraj.Two Congressmen and freedom fighters Mr. Sudalaimuthu Nadar and Mr.Sivaji Muthukumar, observed ‘fasting’ in front of Satyamurty Bhavan, the Head Quarters of Tamilnadu Congress, demanding that the “Radhapuram Bus-stand” should be named after “Perunthalaivar” K.Kamaraj. Both the freedom fighters were arrested by Tamilnadu Police, subsequent to complaint lodged by the Secretary, Tamilnadu Congress Committee. Now, Mr.M.Karunanidhi, the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu has ordered on 19th July 2010, that the “Radhapuram Bus-stand” would be named “Kamarajar Bus-stand”. He also ordered for the immediate release of the congressmen arrested and kept inside “Puzhal Central Prison”.The Chief Minister stated that he had clarified long back, that the Government had not passed any orders to name the “Radhapuram Bus-stand” after the names of his parents. Also he said that the cost of construction and the maintenance cost of the statues of his parents were personally borne by the local M.L.A. Also he said that he ordered the District Administration that the statues need not be unveiled then.
