“Airconditioned Double Decker Coaches” soon in Indian Trains

In the recent Union Railway Budget-2010 presented by the Indian Union Railways Minister Ms.Mamata Bannerjee, there has been an announcement about introduction of ‘airconditioned-double decker coaches’ in trains in India.The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) of Kapurthala, India has developed a prototype of India’s first ‘Airconditioned – Dobule Decker Coach’. The preliminary testing of the double-decker train coaches has been successfully done. Trial running of such coaches will be conducted in some more months.

Initially two trains with ‘airconditioned double decker coaches’ will be operated between Delhi and Kolkatta. Depending on the response the coaches will be extended to other routes.
The ‘airconditioned double decker coaches’ will be 1.5 feet higher than the ordinary coaches. The capacity of a coach will be 130 and the speed of the train will be 160kms/hour.
