The Editor-in-Chief of “The Hindu” –Mr. N. Ram has been chosen for “K.R.Naryanan Award-2009” for his outstanding contributions to ‘Journalism in India’. The award was instituted in memory of the late President of India, Mr. K.R.Narayanan, by the ‘K.R.Narayanan Foundation’.
Mr.Ram has been selected for the award for his:-
- highlighting the problems of the ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka through a series of articles,
- fostering better relations between India and China and
- for sensitising the readers of ‘The Hindu’ to the hazards of climate change and global warming.
The late President of India, Mr. K.R. Narayanan joined ‘The Hindu’ as a sub-editor after quitting his job of a college lecturer. When Mr.K.R.Narayanan became the President of India, Mr. Ram did a wide-ranging interview with him for ‘Doordarshan’ and the ‘All India Radio’ on the occasion of the fiftieth year of the country’s Independence.
The award will be presented to Mr. Ram, at a function to be held in connection with the ‘K.R. Narayanan Memorial Lecture’ in New Delhi in the first week of January 2010.
Along with Mr. Ram,
- Mr.Yusuffali, the Managing Director of the UAE-based ‘Emke Group’ will be conferred on with the “K.R.Narayanan Pravasi Ratna Award” for his services to Non-Resident Indians, and
- The Malayalam movie ‘Pazhassi Raja’ will receive the “K.R. Narayanan Kala Puraskaram Award”.
