From the year 1937 to the year 1947, the present West Bengal State had been a part of the Bengal Province, including the East Bengal, which became ‘East Pakistan ’in the year 1947 and which subsequently became an independent country- ‘Bangladesh’.

From 6th November 2000 to 14th May 2001& From 15th May 2001 to 17th May 2006& From 18th May 2006 to 13th May 2011, for a total and continuous period of 10 years, 6 months and 7 days, Mr. BUDDHADEB BHATTACHARYA of Communist Party of India(Marxist)/ CPI(M), had been the Seventh Chief Minister of West Bengal State.
From 20th May 2011 to 20th May 2016, for a period of 5 years, Mrs.MAMATA BANERJEE of the All india Trinamool Congress had been the Eighth Chief Minister of West Bengal State.
The Present Chief Minister of West Bengal is Mrs.MAMATA BANERJEE of the All India Trinomool Congress, From 26th May 2016. ( for 5 more years till 26th May 2021)
