India rejected signing Non Nuclear Proliferation Treaty

On 24th September 2009 the UNSC had unanimously adopted a resolution at the instance of the United States of America, at a meeting presided by the US President Barrack Obama, which asked the “Non- NPT States” to sign the treaty.

India rejected signing Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) on 25th September 2009.

The Special Envoy to the Prime Minister of India, Mr.Shyam Saran told that India does not intend to be a party to the NPT as a Non Nuclear Weapon State.

As expressed by Mr. Shyam Saran, India is committed to “nuclear disarmament” and at the same time, India is also committed to “unilateral moratorium on nuclear tests”.
