Tamil Actor Prakash Raj is the Best Actor- National Film Awards

The National Film Awards for the year 2007 was announced on 7th September 2009.

Tamil Actor Prakash Raj has been awarded “The Best Actor”- National Film Award for the year 2007 for his performance in Tamil film “Kanchivaram”.

Prakash Raj was awarded “The Best Supporting Actor” -National Film Award in the year 1998 for his performance in Tamil film “Iruvar”. Also he was awarded a Special Jury award in the year 2003.

The Tamil film “Kanchivaram” has been chosen as “The Best Film” for the year 2007. The film has been directed by Priyadarshan. The film is on the lives of Silk weavers of Kanchivaram in Tamilnadu in pre-independent India.

Adoor Gopalakrishna has been awarded “The Best Director” for his film “Naalu Pennugal”.

Umashree has been awarded “The Best Actress” award for her performance in Kannada film “Gulabi Talkies”.

Sharad Goyekar has been awarded “The best child actor” award for his role in the Marathi film “Tingya”.

“The Wholesome Entertainment Category Award” was given to “Chak De India” and “The Family Welfare Category Award” was given to “Taare Zameen Par”.

“The Best Supportin Actor Award” was given to Darshan Zariwala for his role in “Gandhi My Father”.

Feroz Abbas Khan, the director of the film “Gandhi My Father” was given “The Best Screenplay Award”.

The film “Gandhi My Father” was given a Special Jury Award.

Lyricist Prasoon Joshi got the award for the best lyrics for “Maa” from “Taare Zameen Par”. The song also got Shankar Mahadevan the National Award for best playback singer.

The jury was headed by Sai Paranjpe and the other members included Ashok Viswanathan and Namita Gokhale.

More than 100 films and more than 100 non-feature films were considered for the awards.
